JULY 15 1995 – SREBRENICA
ink (linocut stamps) on paper
15 sheets 20″x26″
complete artwork 108″x80″

Here is the first artwork of the new serie I’m working on, called Frontiers of Myths (Les frontière des Mythes in french).
it’s  serie of the wars in Yougoslavia in the ’90. I was only ten years old at the time, and it was the first time I realized that not everybody was having a confortable childhood like me. The fact that genocides, systematic rapes or other methods of destroying a population were still happening in the nineties, and so close (in the middle of Europe!) was shocking for me.

It took me several years to go back to the subject, but I still feel strongly about those events, so I decided to do a serie about that subject. Here you can find the first artwork I’m releasing, the rest is coming in the next days!

Stamped 2361 times… one for each identified body of the Srebrenica massacre.

On July 7 1995, The  Army of Republika Srpska (VRS) under the command of General Ratko Mladić invaded the city of Srebrenica, located in a UN protected zone. During the whole week, the soldiers will capture and kill the population trying to escape the city.
We estimate between 6000 to 7000 victims, most of them males of any ages.
2361 victims have been identified to this day.

November update

So I’m now back to my human being state,
There was a big art contest in Montreal from the art gallery Arsenal, which is for those who don’t know, a very big gallery in Montreal. (and as a former architect, I can’t help to notice that their space is AMAZING)
The contest is called “Les Ateliers” and give the chance to young artist to have two months workshop with big names in the art world, so I’m pretty excited. The deadline was yesterday though, but you can always check it here if you are interrested in the matter.

The other good news is that it gave me a very big boost to produce the ideas that I had in my head, so I know have a new serie coming up! If you did check my instagram account you saw some preview already. I should post it in the next days. Give me the time to arrange the gallery properly first. Like I said, my speed of production this month wasn’t human, it reminded me of my years as an architecture student.

In case you missed the preview, here they are:

PRV - Witness PRV - 44 month without moving PRV - Veiller PRV - Witness 2 preview_witness02

Looking forward to hear back from them! :) hopefully…
