today is a practice that got carried overboard, added some colors, brought in a quick render to help with the pose, photobashed a little bit, etc…. the whole 9 yards.
In the end the most fun to draw was the relief on the tomb, its from a reference obviously but I modified it to fit the narrative.
I keep going into this very soft lighting schemes, with no crazy contrasts. Might be a good sign, I used to blow out my values so large everything was white OR black. Now its the opposite! I’ll have to reajust. still.
some more serious practice this time,
from an black and white underpainting to full color, I’m trying to keep the painterly effect as strong as possible. i really liked punching those colors that only makes real sense in a painting. Not perfect, still looks bad in my eyes, but I can see some progress, so I am pretty happy about that one in the end.
What do you think?
I don’t often paint on the computer,
but it’s probably time I start.
from a Wu Zhaoming painting
quick sketch this morning,
its actually from a painting
no real credits sorry, I just saw and draw it.
Although work has been crazy, I had some time to enjoy the studio.
Here is two fast practice I made. You can see the progress.
The black and white one is from a youtube documentary of a war journalist following a group of soldiers during the Kosovo War. At that point, the soldier was explaining that he had spent his life working in that factory, and now his job was to defend it.
The second one is inspired by a drawing I made in a life session several weeks ago. Testing out the colors. Proportions are way off.
Which one do you like?
So far, people seem to prefer the first step of each. humph!
Ho, and here is a drawing I made at work, while waiting for my computer. It’s the famous shower scene in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho.
Obviously, the first week isn’t especially entertaining.
In order to have a real fresh start, I decided to whiten everything I had done so far:
the tests, the incompletes, the not good enought or even those I just got tired of looking.
So here you go, dozens of white canvases.
Now all I need is inspiration….
Oh okay, I’ll post something I did two weeks ago in order to keep the interest. I know my dirty studio floor is not so captivating.
Here is my favorites from a live drawing session I went two weeks ago.
